Provincial Requirements
For Pharmacists
Pharmacists who successfully complete a CCCEP competency mapped accredited program in immunization and injection may apply to their provincial regulatory authority for authorization to administer immunizations and injections.
For Pharmacy Technicians
Currently, the administration of immunizations and injections in not captured in the scope of practice for Pharmacy Technicians in Canada. In June 2020, the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists Council approved changes to the Pharmacy Practice Regulations to allow for the delegation of the administration of drugs by injection by a pharmacist to a pharmacy technician. The regulation changes have been submitted to Government of Nova Scotia with the expectation that they will be in place for September 2020.
In order for pharmacy technicians practicing in Nova Scotia to be delegated this authority, they must successfully complete a CCCEP competency mapped accredited pharmacy technician administration of drugs by injection program and apply to the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists for a Drug Administration by Injection Certificate.
Program Requirements
For Pharmacists
The program must meet the following conditions:
- The program addresses the 15 required competencies.
- The program meets the criteria and guidelines for a CCCEP accredited Continuing Education Certificate program as outlined in the CCCEP policy on certificate programs. For information on CCCEP’s certificate programs and to access a copy of the CCCEP policy please click here.
- Only programs that address the 15 competencies outlined in Condition 1 may be accredited as a certificate program under the CCCEP policy on Accreditation of Continuing Education Certificate Programs.
For Pharmacy Technicians
The program must meet the following conditions:
- The program addresses the seven required competencies.
- The program meets the criteria and guidelines for a CCCEP accredited Continuing Education Certificate program as outlined in the CCCEP policy on certificate programs. For information on CCCEP’s certificate programs and to access a copy of the CCCEP policy please click here.
- Only programs that address the seven competencies outlined in Condition 1 may be accredited as a certificate program under the CCCEP policy on Accreditation of Continuing Education Certificate Programs.

For Pharmacy Technicians
The seven required competencies, as well as the content expected in a learning activity that is intended to address the required competencies, are outlined in the application form that can be found on the CCCEP forms page.
Accreditation Review Process
The competency mapped accreditation review process is a two-stage process.
- Stage 1: Regular review for a CCCEP-accredited Continuing Education Certificate program.
- Stage 2: Review the extent to which the program addresses the required competencies.
The Stage 1 review process is the process that is used for all new learning activities, with the addition of the review for Certificate Program eligibility (conducted concurrently).
The Stage 2 review process examines the content of a program to determine the extent to which it addresses each of the required competencies.
