December 6, 2024, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador – At their recent Board meeting, the Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP) appointed two new Directors. Effective November 29, 2024, Jennifer LaPierre was appointed to the Board of Directors of CCCEP as the representative for the Prince Edward Island College of Pharmacy, and Dr. Rita Dhami was appointed as the representative for the Canadian Society of Healthcare-Systems Pharmacy.
Jennifer LaPierre is the Deputy Registrar with the Prince Edward Island College of Pharmacy. Prior to joining the College staff in 2019, Jennifer practiced as a community pharmacist and pharmacy manager. She holds Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) degrees from Dalhousie University and is currently a graduate student in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University. Ms. LaPierre replaces Michelle Wyand, who served on the Board of Directors since 2008.
“I am pleased to join this dedicated Board of Directors” said Ms. LaPierre, noting that “At a time of rapid changes in the pharmacy environment, CCCEP is well positioned to play a pivotal role, and I look forward to working with the Board as the organization continues to adapt and respond to these changes.”
Dr. Rita Dhami replaces Dr. Barb Thomas, who had served on the Board of Directors since 2005. Dr. Dhami is currently the Chief Pharmacy Officer for the Canadian Society of Healthcare-Systems Pharmacy, where she oversees advocacy and professional development initiatives. Prior to her current role, she served as the Director of Professional Practice at the Canadian Pharmacists Association. She is a passionate hospital pharmacist with pharmacy practice and leadership experience in hospital, community and academic roles. Dr. Dhami completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Toronto and a Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Florida. She also has national-level experience at Mohawk Medbuy, a not-for-profit group purchasing organization.
“Continuing professional development is vitally important to pharmacy practice and CCCEP is a leader in ensuring the availability of quality continuing education for the pharmacy profession” said Dr. Dhami, adding “I am excited to join this dedicated Board of Directors, and look forward to learning from them, and contributing to the future of CCCEP”.
CCCEP’s President Pamela Timanson welcomed Jennifer and Rita to the Board, noting that “We look forward to their perspectives and input and are confident that they will contribute positively to the Board’s work”. She also thanked Michelle Wyand and Barb Thomas for their extensive contributions to CCCEP over their many years with the Board adding that “their presence will be deeply missed”.
