June 21, 2024, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador – At their recent Board meeting, the Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP) appointed two new Directors. Effective May 23, 2024, Heather Christ was appointed to the Board of Directors of CCCEP as the representative for the New Brunswick College of Pharmacists, and Pascale Gervais was appointed as the representative for l’Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec.
Heather Christ is the Acting Registrar with the New Brunswick College of Pharmacists, having previously served as Deputy Registrar and Director of Quality. Heather has close to 40 years of experience as a pharmacist in both the community and hospital pharmacy settings. Between 2012 and 2023, Heather held the Pharmacy Practice Advisor role at the College. Ms. Christ replaces Anastasia Shiamptanis, who had served on the Board of Directors since 2022.
“I am delighted to return to this dedicated Board of Directors and look forward to working with them” said Ms. Christ, noting that “It is both an exciting and challenging time to join this Board in light of the profound changes occurring in the pharmacy environment, and I look forward to the discussions as to how CCCEP can play a pivotal role in managing those changes.”
Pascale Gervais replaces Marie-Eve Turcotte, who had served on the Board of Directors since 2021. Ms. Gervais is currently the Advisor/Analyst, accreditation and continuing education, for l’Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec. Pascale has practiced in academic, community and hospital settings from 2002 to 2010 at which time she joined l’Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec. She holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Montreal, as well as a master’s degree in pharmaceutical practice (health establishment).
“Quality education is important to professional practice and CCCEP is a leader in ensuring its availability for the pharmacy profession” said Ms. Gervais, adding “I am excited to join this exceptional Board of Directors, learning from, and contributing to the future of the organization”.
CCCEP’s President Sheena Deane welcomed Heather and Pascale to the Board, noting that “We look forward to their energy, insight and perspectives and are confident that their past experiences and backgrounds will contribute positively to the Board’s work”. She also thanked Anastasia Shiamptanis and Marie-Eve Turcotte for their contributions over the past few years.
